“Happiness dies when not shared” — Baba Amte

Baba Amte rightly deserves a position in this leader series at SCG. Unfortunately he is no more to guide Indians in their fight against social inequality. Baba Amte is known as the last Gandhian. A Gandhian is one who religiously follows Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of resorting to ahimsa (non-violence) to fight social injustice.

NR Narayana Murthy

India leads the outsourced IT services space, and when you talk about outsourcing IT services, one cannot afford to miss mentioning Infosys. Infosys is one of India’s largest IT companies and is a global brand to reckon with.

Since India has acheived leadership in no other field like its done in IT, we thought of kick starting this series with a good feature on N.R Narayana Murthy.

N.R. Narayana Murthy (NRN as he is fondly called) is the co-founder and the longest serving CEO of Infosys. While there are others in the IT space that one can write about NRN’s contribution is distinct. His vision has taken infosys to new heights, something which Indians could not imagine 20 years ago. When the Infosys campus was built more than a decade ago, the total cost of building was more than the companies revenue. But the founders including NRN knew that a global company needed an outstanding campus, quality infrastructure that clients can rely on.

Its a tradition that dates back to the babylonian era. We all tend to set new year resolutions and try to work them to closure every year. Although a resolution can be made any time of the year - new year seems to be a good way to set new targets and goals. Reason - well forgetting the past is a tough thing - a new year automatically ensures -

a new diary

new dates

new holiday list etc.

But all our new year resolutions tend to be short lived. Here are a few tips to help them last longer

1. Set realisitic goals : Most new year resolutions are made in the wake of urgency. Normally decided upon just a day before or on the new years eve. Goals should be set much in advance and attempts muct be made to abide by the resolution prior to the new year eve.

2. Write down your new year resolution in your brand new organizer or diary.

Sharukh and his team in Chak De

Chak De SCG

Yesterday I watched Chak De - a recent bollywood box office hit. Good movie, the screenplay could have been better, the dialogues needed a bit more power, and the end was not really upto the mark. But definitely the storyline was unique and the sole reason the movie has done really well.

Chak de is about Indian Womens hockey team winning the world cup, it is apparently inspired by a real story. Hockey is India’s national game but does not get the money or sponsorship as CRICKET, which is the mass favorite. The coach played by Sharukh Khan - plays a tyrant coach to unite the team against him. Sharukh’s severe training schedule gets the team united against him, till they realize that his strategy and finally go on to win the Womens world cup.

What we can learn from Chak De??

The story tells us that teamwork can help us achieve the impossible. The important thing is to be united in all circumstances, work collectively towards your goal, first for your country (organisation), then for your teammates, and if you still have some energy left, work for your own pleasure.

It tells us that if you are selfish, then you maybe working against your own team, since opponents may notice this and exploit this weakness.

Everyone is equal and will get an opportunity to showcase his or her talent in the team. Everybody gets a chance to stand out, never mind if you are not in limelight now, do your duty, and appreciate others, the goodwill will help you achieve the impossible and scale new heights.

I think we can learn a lot from Chak De, after all SCG is not a proven concept, its an opportunity, for the nation, for the society and for the world, and ofcourse for you. The only way we can succeed is by teamwork.

Watch Chak De..! Enjoy

In one of my earlier posts I had stated as to how SUN is getting ready to empower the Web 2.0 revolution. Its clear that there is a revolution of some sorts waiting to happen. When the internet was born, only a few would have thought that it would outdo every other medium on earth. Communication, entertainment, business all have integrated their products with applications, that help users connect to the internet. The Web 2.0 revolution is already here with new hardware, more bandwidth, and improved applications. GMAIL, I must say is the Web 2.0, web based free email service. The X6400 is the Web 2.0 web server.
When we talk of applications, we must of talk about the code used to build it. (more…)
