NR Narayana Murthy

India leads the outsourced IT services space, and when you talk about outsourcing IT services, one cannot afford to miss mentioning Infosys. Infosys is one of India’s largest IT companies and is a global brand to reckon with.

Since India has acheived leadership in no other field like its done in IT, we thought of kick starting this series with a good feature on N.R Narayana Murthy.

N.R. Narayana Murthy (NRN as he is fondly called) is the co-founder and the longest serving CEO of Infosys. While there are others in the IT space that one can write about NRN’s contribution is distinct. His vision has taken infosys to new heights, something which Indians could not imagine 20 years ago. When the Infosys campus was built more than a decade ago, the total cost of building was more than the companies revenue. But the founders including NRN knew that a global company needed an outstanding campus, quality infrastructure that clients can rely on.

Also setting trends was Infosys hiring spree, freshers wire hired from engineering colleges across the nation and subjected to quality training to make them industry ready. Thousands of jobs were created and soon the world started viewing India as a IT super power. So much so that Accenture now has India as its largest base, more employees than it has in America.

NRN was the driving force behind the force of Infosys, which makes it a leader in its space. Although one of the richest men India, he still lives a simple lifestyle and not much has changed

What we can learn from the leader
1. Beleif in one’s revenue model. When Infosys was founder, not many people beleived in the idea of a software services, but NRN and his friends continued their hardwork and lay foundation to one of India’s largest IT companies. Today not only is Infosys famous for undertaking outsourcing of IT outsourcing but also has some software products like Finacle which empower most banks in India today.

2. Staying level headed. Inspite of having won so much of fame, that any IT CEO can hardly aspire to have, NRN continues to be approachable. So much so that you too can email him and if the question is valid, you would get a response within days.

Thats what I know about NRN, if you know more and want to contribute, please add to the comments.
